Does Resveratrol Have Anti-aging Properties?
In a study conducted at the School of Medicine of Jinan University, resveratrol demonstrated a more complex and refined regulatory mechanism. The research indicated that resveratrol not only significantly delays premature aging caused by oxidative stress but also plays a crucial role in the cellular aging process by regulating the N6-methyladenosine (m6A) methylation levels of RNA. Using an H₂O₂-induced cellular premature aging model, researchers found that resveratrol can regulate the expression of m6A methylation-related enzymes and RNA-binding proteins, thereby influencing various biological processes in aging cells, such as reducing the expression of the senescence-associated secretory phenotype (SASP), regulating the methylation levels of cell cycle-related genes, and promoting normal cell division and functional recovery.
Experiments also showed that specific concentrations of resveratrol significantly increased cell viability, alleviated the degree of cellular senescence, and enabled cell numbers to recover in the later stages of the experiment. The proportion of cells in the quiescent phase of the cell cycle tended toward normal levels, and the expression of ROS levels and senescence-related molecular markers (such as IL-6, IL-8, VEGF, and MMP1) within cells was significantly reduced.
