Lycopene is a natural pigment found in foods, belonging to the carotenoid family. Its antioxidant properties have been proven to offer health benefits for humans. Many fruits are rich in lycopene, such as tomatoes, grapes, pomegranates, grapefruit, and pomelo.

Regarding lycopene content, watermelon contains higher levels than tomatoes and is more readily absorbed. Data indicates that red-fleshed watermelon can contain 3.3-10 milligrams of lycopene per 100 grams, while raw red tomatoes contain 2.57 milligrams per 100 grams.

The Guangzhou Nutrition and Health Study (GNHS) from 2008 to 2013 found that residents aged 50 to 75 consumed an average of only 1.69 mg of lycopene daily in their diets. Another study of 134 residents in Jining City, Shandong Province, also found that the average lycopene intake in spring, summer, autumn, and winter was 0.75 mg, 2.42 mg, 0.54 mg, and 0.36 mg, respectively.

2. Lycopene also helps regulate immune function, positively influencing non-specific cellular immunity.
